Realizing GRTA's Potential: Lessons from Around the Country
Looks at how the new Georgia Regional Transportation Authority might emulate the successes and avoid the failures of a number of similar agencies around the country. While GRTA’s composition and charge is unique, its members can learn from the troubled history of the MTA in Los Angeles and the mixed but promising tenure of the Metropolitan Council in Minneapolis. The 48-page report also outlines some paths MPOs and states are taking as they tackle transportation and growth problems. The report begins with case studies and draws out findings from each that are relevant to GRTA. It concludes with a set of concrete recommendations on both structure and substance that GRTA Board members can consider as they build the agency.
