state legislature STPP California tracks many key pieces of state legislation that impact more balanced transportation and land use policies. Despite the ongoing budget deficit, 2004 will still be an active year in Sacramento. Read about the four initiatives on which STPP California is focusing its efforts. PAST LEGISLATION

AB857 (Wiggins) -- signed in September 2002 -- establishes one of the most significant and far-reaching "smart growth" reforms in California since the 1970s. Find out more.

SB1636 (Figueroa) relaxes state traffic rules and regulations -- so-called "level of service standards" -- that have discouraged new infill development around mass transit throughout the state; cities and counties must pass resolutions starting in 2003 to take advantage of the new rules. Governor Gray Davis signed SB10, the Safe Routes to School bill of 2001, renewing the 1999 law and providing another $70 million for projects through 2005.  STPP is currently working towards its reauthorization. Click here for the details and ways for you to become involved.
