A
new report from the Surface Transportation Policy Project, the Transportation
and Land Use Coalition and the Latino
Issues Forum, finds that California's children and youth are
being forced to choose between navigating dangerous streets on
foot or by bike or depending on their parents to get where they
need to go. The failure of transportation planners to
accommodate the travel needs of children is costing parents time
and money, leading to unhealthy and inactive lifestyles among
the state's 9 million children and youth, and making traffic the
leading cause of unintentional death for Californians 17 and
under.
