An End to Congestion?
California's traffic congestion may be maddening, but as it
turns out isn't solely a function of highway supply failing to keep pace with
population throughout the state. In reality, much of
what has driven the recent growth in traffic congestion is an exponential increase in
driving. This is primarily due to lower-density and spread out residential and commercial
development patterns that force people to drive more frequently over longer and longer distances
compounded by other issues such as the lack of affordable housing near job centers.
